Who doesn’t enjoy a trip to the Cinema? The lights, the sounds, the gripping action, the romantic moments. Films are a fantastic way of relaxing, learning, and socialising. Unfortunately for someone who lives with dementia, it can be difficult to concentrate on one thing for an extended length of time. Add this to the cramped seating, the loud noises and a room full of strangers, a simple trip to the movies can be quite a stressful and worrying experience.
Thankfully, there are people who understand all of this, and the Quad cinema in Derby have recently started ‘Dementia Friendly Showings’ of films specifically aimed at people who find it difficult to enjoy a film at an ordinary cinema. In these showings the seats are bigger and further spaced apart, the screen is closer and smaller, and the sound isn’t as imposing.
Some of our staff and residents went along today to the screening of ‘Top Hat’ and had a wonderful afternoon! So much so that they have already booked in for the next screening!
