Woodleigh Christian Care Home is officially 30 years young! opening in September 1988, Woodleigh has served the community of Mansfield through a number of generations now, and we have loved every minute of it. And with this being our 30th birthday, we knew we had to do something special, and we knew that one event wouldn’t be enough. Instead we dedicated the entire month of September to celebrating this amazing achievement.
We started our celebrations with a dedication service. One of our resident’s families kindly donated a beautiful
tapestry depicting ‘The Last Supper’ to Woodleigh after she sadly passed away. The service was held by our Chaplain Helen Curzon and some very special people who have been part of Woodleigh’s history joined us, one of whom was Hazel Williams who was the driving force behind Woodleigh’s birth in 1988 and was the very first Manager! It was a beautiful service and was an event that we will remember for a long time.
We also held an cheese and wine night followed by an auction to raise money for the ‘Friends of Woodleigh’ charity which pays for activities and events for the residents. The auction included items that had been donated by Mansfield palace Theatre, Trent Bridge, Mansfield Town Football Club and many more. It was an event filled with fun and laughter, and thanks to the generosity of all of our bidders we raised an incredible £396!
Our activities team were hard at work throughout September making sure that there was something happening each and every day and it was an amazing atmosphere to be a part of. With all of the memories of the past 30 years being shared, we can’t wait to make new ones over the next 30 years. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of Woodleigh on our journey so far, and we hope you join us into the future.
